Theodore ‘Ted’ Piekarski

TERRE HAUTE —

Theodore “Ted” Piekarski, 72, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1939, in Meriden, Conn., to John and Veronica (Kmetz) Piekarski.

He graduated from Yalesville (Conn.) High School and completed a four-year apprenticeship, becoming a journeyman electrician. He was a retired member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 90, in New Haven, Conn., having worked in Connecticut, Minnesota, Tennessee, Illinois, Maine, Wisconsin, and Indiana.

Ted moved to Indiana where he married his “Hoosier” in 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Martha (Lashbrook) Piekarski; mother (age 99) of Cheshire, Conn.; daughter, Susan (Rick) Massicott, and four grandchildren, Paul, Sarah, Adam and Jordan, of Higganum, Conn.; son, Ted Jr. of Middletown, Conn.; sister, Lorraine Lassen of Cheshire, Conn.; sister-in-law, Nancy (Emil) Fleck of Evansville; very special niece, Courtney (Matt) Levy, and very special nephew, Scot Fleck, all of Chicago; extra special great-nephew, Jack Matthew Levy; cousins, niece and nephews in Connecticut; close friends and co-caregivers, Paul and Jill Clinkenbeard; and faithful pets, Jett and Lucky. He was preceded in death by his father; mother-in-law and father-in-law; a brother-in-law; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He enjoyed his farm in Rosedale (that he purchased after his retirement), gardening, swimming, going to auctions and playing cards with friends and family.

Per Ted’s wishes his body was donated to science (Anatomy Sharing) and cremation will follow. Donations in Ted’s honor may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. There will be a celebration of Ted’s life at a later date.

To Those I Love

When I am gone, just release me,

let me go — so I can move into my

afterglow. You mustn’t tie me down

with your tears; let’s be happy

that we had so many years. I gave you

my love, you can only guess

how much you gave me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have

shown, but now it’s time I traveled on alone.

So grieve for me awhile, if grieve

you must, then let your grief be comforted

with trust. It’s only for a while that

we must part, so bless the memories within

your heart. And then, when you must

come this way alone, I’ll greet you with

a smile and a “Welcome Home.”
