Franklin Vernon Presnell

Franklin Vernon Presnell, 76, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 1:27 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Terre Haute, to Arthur Presnell and Evangeline Presnell Matherly. He was a lieutenant for the Terre Haute Police Department and retired after 40 years of service. Vernon was a lifetime member of the Terre Haute Fraternal Order of Police, former president of the West Terre Haute Little League, and an assistant softball coach for St. Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team during their inaugural season. He enjoyed coaching softball, baseball and basketball  for over twenty plus years and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Pacers fan. Vernon also enjoyed watching his grandchildren, Rylie and Caitlin dance; his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Leah play volleyball; and grandson, Alec play football.

 Survivors include his wife of forty years, Cindy McCormick Presnell; and his children, Michele Presnell Franklin and her husband Jacob of Terre Haute, Matthew Presnell and his wife Antoinette of West Terre Haute, Melissa Presnell Strole and her husband Cory of Terre Haute, Greg Presnell and his wife Walda of Clinton, and Kathy Presnell and Frank Presnell of Terre Haute; one brother, Joe Presnell and his wife Betty of Indianapolis; two sisters, Marjorie Weir of Terre Haute and Glenna Reininga and her husband Terry of Evansville; several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, John Matherly; two sons, Kevin Presnell and Chris Presnell; three sisters, Juanita, Bernice, and Barb; and a brother, Ed Presnell.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2104, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Chris Wilbur officiating.  Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to services Wednesday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Vernon Presnell Trust Fund at any First Financial Bank location or with envelopes available at the funeral home.
