Helen L. Pickens, of Paris, Ill., and formerly of Riley, Ind., passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, in Union Hospital. She was born in Vermilion, Ill., on June 14, 1912, to Kirk Reel and Sarah Alice Bandy Reel. Helen was a graduate of Honey Creek High School, was a homemaker, and was a charter member of Riley Bible Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Marva Marshall and husband Bob; and three grandchildren, Kirk Pickens and wife Carrie, Jesse Marshall, and John Marshall and wife Courtney. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Abigail Marshall and Addison Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Pickens, who passed away in 1996; and one sister, Ruth Guymon.
Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. EST, with Pastor Lynford Regier and the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Little Grove Cemetery in Vermilion. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Saint Bernice Fire Department or Cross World Missions, in her memory, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
