Ruthann Purcell

BRAZIL — Ruthann Purcell, 75, of Brazil, passed away Jan. 7, 2014, at her home with her family by her side. She had fought a battle with ALS for the past three years. She was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Clay County, the daughter of Andrew Mager and Elsie Philabaum Mager.

She graduated from Brazil High School, and on June 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to Jerry Ray Purcell. Together they raised their family in Clay County.  Ruthann was a lifelong member of Rock Run Church. She held many positions at the church including, treasurer and Sunday School teacher. Her life revolved around her faith and her family.

Mrs. Purcell was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Larry Mager, Dick Mager, Jim Mager and Bill Mager; an infant sibling; and brother-in-law, David Chapman.  

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Ray Purcell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Lee Purcell and wife Tammie, and Jim Purcell and wife Chantel; six grandchildren, Jeri Lynn Purcell, Matthew Ryan Purcell, Andrew Colt Purcell, Jacob Purcell, Ashley Purcell and Andrea Purcell; great-grandchildren, Lincoln Maybaugh and Brinley Maybaugh; sister, Shirley Chapman; brothers, Lenny Mager and wife Elaine, Bob Mager and wife Cindy, Perry Mager and wife Myrna, and George Mager; sisters-in-law, Harriet Mager, Vicki Mager, Shirley Mager and Gayla Mager; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Perry Mager officiating. Burial will follow at Mager Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. If friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 3401 S. 4th St., Terre Haute, IN 47802 or to the ALS Association, 1275 K.
