Harold Vincent Skeel

WORTHINGTON — WORTHINGTON — Harold Vincent Skeel, 90, of Worthington, passed away at IU Health Hospice in Bloomington on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014. He was born in Emmison, Ind., on May 19, 1923, to Walter L. and Lola (Courtney) Skeel. Mr. Skeel was a member of the Christian Church for 80 years. He graduated from Worthington-Jefferson High School in 1941 and after serving in WWII, he attended Butler University’s School of Pharmacy, receiving his doctorate of pharmacy in 1950. Harold worked for Hooks Drugs in Linton before retiring as the manager and pharmacist. He then substituted for area pharmacies for the next 10 years. In all, he held his license for 50 years. Harold was a 50-year member of the Worthington Masonic Lodge, an avid golfer and enjoyed being outside. He also was a faithful follower of IU and Butler sports.

Harold was a WWII Army Air Force veteran and served as a tail gunner in a B-24. He flew 35 missions over Germany and had to bail out once.

Harold married Janice (Williams) Skeel on July 2, 1950, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Marcus Skeel of Washington, D.C., and Ryan Skeel of Terre Haute; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a nephew, David Skeel.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Skeel; and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, with Pastor Allan Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the Worthington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before the service on Friday.

It would be his wish that memorial contributions be made to the IU Health Hospice House or the charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
