UNIVERSAL — Paul Soyack Jr., 67, of Universal, passed away on Dec. 13, 2013, at 9:43 p.m., at Union Hospital-Clinton. He was born Aug. 9, 1946, in Clinton, to Paul Soyack and Mafalda Muciarelli Soyack. Paul graduated from Clinton High School in 1964. He was a produce manager for Standard Food Store and Kroger before being employed by Peabody Coal Company at their Universal Mine. After the closure of the mine, he served as the transportation director for South Vermillion Community School Corporation until his retirement in 2011, after 23 years of employment.
He was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Universal, and a member of Sacred Heart Church, in Clinton, also a member of Universal Young Men’s Club and A.A.R.P.
Gardening and decorating his home and yard for the holidays were his hobbies. People came from miles around to view his elaborate Christmas displays.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Massimo Soyack.
Survivors include his sister, Anna Marie Soyack of Universal; cousins, Marie Corrado Retherford of Hamilton Ohio, Jim Muciarelli of Lyford; Martha Soyack of Universal; Jolee Green of Terre Haute; and Mary Ann Clements of Denton, Texas.
Prayer services will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, in Giovanini Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Father Michael Fritsch officiating. Friends may call at Giovanini Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, in Terre Haute.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Parke-Vermillion Humane Society. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
