Katherine M. Orth

Katherine M. Orth, 86, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Meadows Manor North Nursing Home in Terre Haute. She was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Cloverdale, to Clyde and Katherine (Von Spreckelsen) McKamey. Katherine was a graduate of Cloverdale High School. On April 7, 1945, she married William E. Orth and they were together nearly 50 years before he preceded her in death. For several years they owned and operated Orth Aquaria in Lafayette.

Katherine enjoyed gathering with friends and family, organizing neighborhood carry-ins, decorating her home, cooking and baking, art and painting, playing cards, mushroom hunting and crossword puzzles. She had a great memory and loved to recall and share stories about growing up in Cloverdale, fun times had along the Wabash River, interesting customers she encountered and other happenings of her 86-year journey. She was blessed with very good health and independence, and remained very involved with nearby neighbors and friends.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine of her 10 siblings. She is survived by her two children, William L. (Judy) Orth of West Lafayette, and Deborah (Richard) Kjonaas of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Kim Lehnen of Rossville, Michael Orth of Terre Haute, Kris (Monty) Brewer of West Point, and Tammy Kjonaas of Columbia, S.C.; six great-grandchildren, Kaylee Lehnen, Taylor Lehnen, Cassidy Orth, Alicia Orth, Madison Brewer and Wesley Brewer; one brother, Robert (Evelyn) McKamey of Cloverdale; a sister-in-law, Shirley McKamey of West Terre Haute; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will take place privately at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution can do so to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the charity of their choice. Mattox-Wood Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Online expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at:
