George M. Goetschel
George M. Goetschel, 54, of Prairie Creek, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2009, in Union Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1955, in Chicago, to George F. Goetschel and Helen (Durkin) Goetschel. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era. He worked for 31 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and a postal clerk.
He is survived by his mother; his loving wife, Nancy (Snyder) Goetschel, whom he married June 4, 1983; three children, Michael Goetschel ATAN, US Navy, Norfolk, Va., Marissa Goetschel of Prairie Creek, and Morgan Goetschel of Aurora, Ill. He is also survived by sisters, Helen Polgar and husband Gary of Bolingbrook, Ill., Patricia Miller and husband Norm of Washington, and Monica Gendreau of Villa Park, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He loved fishing, camping, reading, and you almost never saw him without a cup of coffee. In earlier years he did stained glass work. He was a member of the Berean Brothers at Maryland Community Church, where he attended for many years.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with services at 6 p.m., with Pastor Scot Longyear officiating. Cremation will follow.
