Leo D. Archdale

Leo D. Archdale, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in Regional Hospital after suffering a stroke. Leo was born on Nov. 27, 1929, in Peoria, Ill., to Clyde Archdale and Nellie Hazel Jones Archdale. Leo’s wife, Mary, whom he married in 1973, preceded him in death in September 2006.

He is survived by his children, stepchildren, and extended family members, 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Leo left behind family members and loved ones, David Archdale and his wife Mary of Tazewell, Ill., Rick Archdale and his wife Barb of Edwards, Ill., Trudy Gall and her husband Rick of Biggsville, Ill., Nancy Shelander and her husband George of Fort Mills, S.C., Judith Baylie of Springfield, Ill., Jackie Sherman of Arlington, Texas, Angie Slater and her husband Jim of Fort Worth, Texas, Janie Chilton and her husband Sam of Terre Haute, Joe Fulford of Terre Haute, Hubert Fulford and his wife Judy of Lake Dallas, Texas, Aurilla Fulford of Terre Haute and Dottie Rickard of Peoria. Friends included Bryan Herman and his wife Jennifer of Terre Haute; and neighbors of Pine Forest Mobile Home Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Arlene Phillips; and two daughters, Susan Turney and Sherry Hedden.

Leo retired from Caterpillar in Peoria. He was also employed by Heritage Liquors in West Terre Haute for many years. He was a member of the Young Men’s Club and American Legion Post 346.

According to Leo’s wishes, cremation has been scheduled. There is no visitation. Burial of his ashes is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, in Roselawn Memorial Park. In honor of Leo’s memory, contributions may be made to Terre Haute Humane Society, 1811 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
