Connie Vaughn Morlan
BRAZIL — Connie Vaughn Morlan, 60, of Brazil, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at IU Med Center in Indianapolis, shortly after surgery. He was born on Sept. 22, 1948, in Brazil, to Reeve and Iona (O’Hern) Morlan. Mr. Morlan graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1966. He married Sandra Hargis on Dec. 11, 1966. Following high school, he worked for Union Carbide in Indianapolis, and then Arktex Clay Plant in Brazil, until beginning his career at the Putnamville Correctional Facility in January 1971. Following retirement in 2003, he worked as a bartender at Hunters Lounge and East Side Tavern. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, watching his favorite NASCAR driver Ricky Rudd, Atlanta Braves baseball and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working with the South Putnam Junior High football team, umpiring with Putnam County Little League baseball teams, coaching his children’s ball teams and volunteering with Cub Scouts and Brazil Head Start. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Order of the Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amanda Arlene Morlan; brothers, Donald Morlan, Howard Faye Morlan and Kenneth Dale Morlan; a sister, Carolyn June Morlan; nephew, Stephen Morlan; and brother-in-law, Ron Batchelor.
Survivors include his son, Brent Edward Morlan and Margaret Shorter, and daughter, Kelly Denise Price, all of Brazil; grandchildren, Clayton Vaughn Morlan, Jacob Price, Jessica Demere, Joseph Price and Kassidy Price; uncle, Dale O’Hern of Somerset, Ky.; two brothers, Ronald Morlan and wife Juanita of Brazil and Gilbert Morlan of Terre Haute; a sister, Sharon Batchelor of Brazil; mother of his children and close friend Sandra Morlan of Science Hill, Ky.; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, in Brazil on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Dragan officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
