Mary Elizabeth Duell Clark
BRAZIL — Mary Elizabeth Duell Clark, 85, of Brazil, died at Cloverleaf Nursing Home, in Knightsville, on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at 9:35 p.m. She was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Manhattan, Ind., to Zaring and Nellie Rollings Duell. She was a 1941 graduate of Reelsville High School. On July 4, 1943, she married Emerson Clark. He preceded her in death in 1978. Mary was employed at Putnam County and Clay County hospitals as a nurse's assistant. During World War II she was an employee of Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. After retirement, she was a volunteer at the Clay County Food Pantry, Clay County Health Center, and was a "Gray Lady" at Clay County Hospital.
Mary was a member of First Christian Church for many years, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 238 in Knightsville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Olive and Maxine; brothers, Jesse and David; and an infant sister.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Clark and wife Elizabeth of Knightsville, Rebecca McPheeters of Westfield, Ind., and Kevin Clark and wife Sherri of Brazil; grandchildren, Erin and husband Andrew, Erika and husband Peter, Emily and husband Shane, Stephanie and Michael; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Ashlynne, Caleb and Rebecca; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ernie Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4 until 8 p.m.
