Harry Lee Opell
Harry Lee Opell, 78, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Washington, died at 12:23 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in The Waters of Clinton Nursing Home, in Clinton. He was born on June 9, 1930, in Knox County, to Ray J. Opell and Thelma Margaret Rodgers. He married Barbara Ann Weibel, on Oct. 27, 1962, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1994. He was a retired truck driver for Schneider Trucking Company.
Survivors include his daughters, Joyce Ann Evans of Washington and Janice Marie and Sherlin Burkes of Simpson, La.; sons, Jerry Wayne and Debbie Brunner of Clinton, Larry Gene and Mary Brunner of Cannelton and Terry Lee and Susan Brunner of Paris, Ill.; special friend, Agnes Davis of Terre Haute; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Jack Opell; and granddaughter, Barbara Jo Sturgeon,
He was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1953. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 135 and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, in Gill Chapel in Washington with the Rev. Steven Beck officiating. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers are Terry Brunner, Jerry Brunner, Larry Brunner, Shane Brunner, Robert Brunner and John Fitzgerald. Gill Funeral Home, in Washington, assisted with arrangements.
