Betty I. Benefiel

Betty I. Benefiel, 78, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 27, 2008, in Royal Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was retired from Vigo County School Corporation, as a cook at Terre Town Elementary School, after many years of service. She was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Terre Haute, to Harry Lamb and Ordith Wycoff Lamb. Her husband, Lawrence Benefiel, whom she married on May 28, 1958, in Terre Haute, preceded her in death, on April 6, 2007.

Survivors include her children, Eddie Rogers and his wife Becky, Jon Rogers and his wife Kathy, Darlene Holstine and her husband Gary and Dennis Benefiel and his wife Vera, all of Terre Haute; three brothers, Billy Ray Price and Wayne Price, both of West Terre Haute, and Richard Price of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Grayless; and siblings, Mary Fagg, Jim Lamb, Harry “Mike” Lamb, Loretta Vester and Vivian Davidson.

She was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Ladies Auxiliary.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Tim Fagg officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and prior to services Saturday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
