Margaret Ann (Burns) McGrew
Margaret Ann (Burns) McGrew, 74, passed away at her home in Terre Haute, on Sunday, July 26, 2009. She was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Matthew and Mary Burns. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she married the love of her life, Arthur “Bud” McGrew, in 1956.
She is survived by her husband; a brother, Matthew Burns Jr. of Akron, Ohio; four children, Linda Tarwater and her husband Mike of Terre Haute, Arthur McGrew Jr. and his wife Janet of Indianapolis, Carol Stockwell and her husband Mark of St. Louis, and Mary Ervin and her husband Tom of Terre Haute); 10 grandchildren, Kevin and Sean Robinson, Sarah and Anna McGrew, Blake and Brooke Stockwell, Kelly Smith, Adaire, Evan and Aubrey Ervin; two great-grandchildren, D.J. Music and Maggie Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Elizabeth Marie Burns and Rosemary Smith; her brother, James Burns; and her daughter, Elizabeth Marie McGrew.
She graduated from Garfield High School in 1952. She was a filing clerk at Local Reader Service, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Red Hat Society, and La Bonita bowling team. She was a soprano in the Sacred Heart Choir for more than 50 years, singing for church services, weddings, and funerals.
Margaret’s zest for life was only outdone by her hilarious sense of humor. If there was a funny twist to something, she would not only point it out but act it out for you. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and the many, wonderful people she met and touched along the way.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m., with Father Darvin Winters officiating Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
