Johnny Wayne (Walters) Hulen
SHELBURN — Johnny Wayne (Walters) Hulen, 79, of Shelburn, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Thursday July 23, 2009 at Breckenridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sullivan. He was born in Sullivan County, Ind. Sept. 3, 1929 the son of John Hulen and Arlie Oleta Bedwell.
He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1947, retired from Wonder Bread in Terre Haute after 30 years. He was a member of the Farmers Chapel Community Church in Terre Haute, the Moose Lodge 1434 in Linton, Elks Lodge 2157 Port Charlotte, Fla. He dearly loved boating, skiing, camping, dancing, and playing ping pong and pool with his grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mitchell W. Hulen; one daughter, Cynthia Jo Hulen; a granddaughter, Amy Jo Sheffler, a half-brother, Jerry Lee Walters; three stepbrothers; Harold, Dale, and Norman Walters; two stepsisters; Betty Rose Combs and Dorothy Willis.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Bernice Christy Hulen of 60 years. They were married on July 24, 1949. Survivors also include one daughter, Judy Sheffler (Keith) of Shelburn; a half-brother, James Michael Walters (Maxine) of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; two grandsons; Kevin Sheffler (Tina) and Jeff Sheffler (Elizabeth); two stepgreat-grandchildren; Nasya and Larry Dietz.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Banks and Brust Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Throckmartin officiating. Friends may call from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday and before services Monday. Burial in the Center Ridge Cemetery.
