Roscoe ‘Chig’ Dennis Kittle

CLAY CITY — Roscoe “Chig” Dennis Kittle, 95, of Clay City, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at his home in Lewis, following a battle with cancer. He was born in Clay County, April 24, 1913, to Charles and Laura (Sinders) Kittle. Mr. Kittle graduated from Coalmont High School with the class of 1931. He served in the U.S. Army, as a military police officer. Upon coming home he returned to his farming trade and married Mary Belle Stwalley and she survives. He farmed in the Sullivan, Clay and Greene Counties until retiring in 1977.

Roscoe was a member of the Gideon’s International, Faith Southern Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years as well as many other offices within the church; and the Ruritans in Hymera. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Belle Kittle; two daughters, Brenda Culler and Connie Francis and husband Tom; two grandchildren, Chelsie Kilmer and husband Jim and Ryan Culler; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Mr. Kittle was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jessie Christ, Flossie Strahla, Dollie Rehmel, Roland Kittle, Phillip Kittle, Israel Kittle and Ellen Edmondson.

Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., in Clay City, Sunday, July 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. with Pastors David Clapp and Nathan Couch officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons or Hux Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
