Helen Pierce

CLAY CITY — Helen Pierce, 95, of Clay City, died Friday, July 4, 2008, in Westridge Healthcare Facility. She was born July 6, 1912, in Clay City, the daughter of Simon and Anna Davis Adkins. She graduated from Clay City High School, class of 1932. She went on to nursing school, and graduated from the Union Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for Dr. Walter Bond in Clay City, for 25 years. She and her late husband, Max Pierce owned and operated the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City for 24 years before selling the business in 1979.

Helen and Max were married on May 17, 1937 in Logansport. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clay City. Aunt Helen was a loving and caring lady. She and her husband Max enjoyed the companionship of collie dogs and in her later years, Helen had a few special cats she cared for.

Survivors include many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Edith Royer; five brothers, Harry Adkins, Edgar Adkins, James Adkins, Kenneth Adkins and Richard Adkins.

Funeral services are 1 p.m.. Tuesday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., in Clay City, with the Rev. Steve Rundel officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions in her memory should be directed to Clay County Humane Society, 8280 N. Co. Rd. 125 West, Brazil, IN. 47834.
