— Shirley A. Brett, 85, of Terre Haute, died at 4:29 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009. Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Connersville. She was the daughter of Arthur V. Payne and Evan (Stevens) Payne. She was retired from Citizens Bank of both Lafayette and Terre Haute. She was the widow of the Rev. William E. Brett, who served with the United Methodists throughout Indiana. He preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Perry and husband Bob, and Susan Wilson and her fiancé Rick Stamper; three sons, Phil Brett and his wife Donna, Gary Brett and his wife Jan, and Dennis Brett; one brother, William Payne; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Payne and Marjorie Richardson.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church, 301 N. Seventh St., with the Rev. Paul Wagner officiating. Entombment will be at Memory Gardens in Lafayette. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday, at the church.
