Hester L. Cooksey
Hester L. Cooksey, 86, of Detroit and formerly of Terre Haute and Dallas, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, on her way to her sister’s 90th birthday party. She was born Sept. 12, 1921, to Irvin E. Cooksey and Lydia McClung Cooksey in Bucktown, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her five brothers, Bernard, Bruce, Jack, Dean, and Elroy.
Survivors include her daughter, Nida Donar; son-in-law, the Rev. Edwin Rowe; son, Gerald Gerbig; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Roe, Eleanor Leslie, and Mary Tucker of Terre Haute; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at Central United Methodist Church-Detroit, 23 E. Adams, in Detroit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beaumont Hospice, 3711 W. Thirteen Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073.
