Ervin C. Elliott

Ervin C. Elliott, 86, of Terre Haute, died at 3:22 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, in his residence with his daughters, following years with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on May 1, 1922, in Terre Haute, the son of Ervin S. Elliott and Ona M. Reece Elliott. He retired from Commercial Solvents Corporation.
Survivors include his three daughters, Barbara Page Alford, Carol Ellis, and Connie Steigmeyer and husband Tim; grandchildren, Anna Richards and husband Kevin, Ramsey Ellis and wife Amanda, David Page and wife Jana, Scott Steigmeyer, Abby Mason and husband Brad, Leslie Steigmeyer, Blaine Barrett and wife Kelly; great-grandchildren, Devin and Raygann Richards, Ava Ellis, Danica Page, Bryson Jenkins, Ashley, Dustin and Madison Barrett; his former wife and friend Grace Elliott; special cousins, Alice Dressler and family and Curt Reece and family; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Elliott; and special friend and longtime companion, Wilma Carithers and family. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Scott Ellwood and wife Betty, Bill Ellwood and wife Debbie, Tom Elliott, Peggy Brown and husband Chris, Lou Ann Opsahl and husband David, and all their families as well as many other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Elliott; sister, Clara Ruth Ellwood; brother-in-law, Henry Ellwood; and nephew, Kenneth Alan Elliott.
Ervin graduated from Wiley High School and was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a drummer, beginning his career with Greenwood Elementary Band and then with many local bands and a proud member of the Zorah Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a member of Social Lodge 86 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Moose Lodge.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home with Masonic Lodge service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Shriners Children’s Hospital or Hospice of the Wabash Valley would be appreciated. Special thanks to the caregivers, Doris Lee, Kim Shepherd and Karen Myers, whose kindness and care allowed Ervin to remain in his home.
