Greg Oden Checks In
Former Terre Haute resident Greg Oden hasn't been seen on the NBA courts this season because of an injury, but he did make an appearance in the USA Weekend newspaper magazine last weekend. Greg, 19 and the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Portland Trailblazers, talked about what it's like to be featured on a video game (2K Sports' College Hoops 2K8), what his days are like as he rehabs from his microfracture surgery on his right knee, what he's doing with his $3.883 million rookie year salary (he got his mom a car and his brother a truck), and about his blog at www.yardbarker.com. There's even a picture of Greg and his Boston terrier/beagle mix puppy called Charles Barkley McLovin. You can read the article under sports at USA Weekend.com. The Nose knows...

Wabash Valley media spat over Julie Henricks ad may spill over onto ISU athletic fields
There is a new twist in the saga of local media celebrity Julie Henricks.
Henricks’ former employer, WTWO-TV, has apparently refused to accept a video advertisement from her new employer, Crossroads Communications, in which she is featured.
Watch Julie in the disputed ad below
Doug Edge, general manager at Crossroads Communications, tells Nosey Newshawk that his company has a contract with WTWO/WFXW-TV in which the two outlets trade and air each other’s promotional material. But when he sent the new ad, which features Henricks, to WTWO last week, he was told by station officials they would not air the spot. Edge says they will not give him a reason, but he assumes it is because it features Henricks as the spokesperson.
Henricks, a longtime meteorologist and morning show co-host for WTWO, was terminated from her position at WTWO in early September for personnel reasons. Shortly thereafter she was hired to a full-time position at the Crossroads Communications family of radio stations as an on-air personality and meteorologist. As part of the radio outlet’s long-standing partnership with WTWO, Henricks had worked part-time as a DJ for one of Crossroads’ radio stations prior to her termination by the TV station.
Edge claims WTWO’s refusal to air the spot is a breach of contract. WTWO officials, of course, told him they disagree with that assessment and that they have the right to refuse anything Crossroads sends them.
But Edge says there is absolutely nothing objectionable in the content of the video spot, and he isn’t going to take TV-2’s “no” for an answer. His radio network also has a contractual agreement with WTWO on Indiana State University sports broadcasts, but that could be in jeopardy if the TV station continues to refuse to air the disputed promo ad.
On Friday afternoon, Edge sent a letter to the Indiana State University athletic department indicating he would terminate Crossroads Communications’ participation with WTWO in the broadcasting of ISU football and men’s basketball games. If he follows through with that threat, that would mean no radio broadcast of ISU’s final football game Nov. 10, and a scheduled men’s basketball broadcast on Nov. 9.
Nosey will keep you posted on further developments. Meanwhile, you can view the disputed video right now, right here! You can also read a copy of Edge’s letter to the ISU athletic department here.

ISU basketball assistant coach in 'Sports Illustrated'
Indiana State University men's assistant basketball coach Stan Gouard was recently quoted in a 'Sports Illustrated' article profiling the success of Tennessee men's coach Bruce Pearl. It seems that Gouard, a native of Danville, Ill., was one of Pearl's first recruits after he became coach at the University of Southern Indiana in 1992, two years after Pearl was ostracized in the coaching community for secretly recording a conversation where a possible Iowa recruit alleged that he was offered money and a car to attend Illinois. 'I had friends tell me: Why Bruce Pearl? Why would you want to play for a cheater," Gouard is quited in the magazine article. "But then they'd meet him and change their minds. They liked the guy." The article, in the Oct. 15 edition, goes on to say that Gouard helped Pearl win two NCAA Division II national titles. The nose knows...

ICP not that insane but did they have a barrel of fun in Wabash Valley stop?
You won’t see Terre Haute on the tour schedule for Insane Clown Posse. But they gotta eat, right? ICP recently stopped in for home cooking at the Crackerbarrel off Margaret Avenue, according to those who witnessed the meal. Was it for the biscuits? Giant checkers? Or maybe the sound crew was out of old-fashioned candy sticks? Either way, they came; they ate; they tipped well. As it often is at the Crossroads of America, we don’t know where folks are headed when they pass through. But we can rest assured that the next concert on ICP’s tour was a level above. Julie Henricks and Party Marty make waves on air
Terre Haute radio stations WBOW, B102.7, and WSDM, the CROCK 92.7, have recently acquired some new on-air talent. Julie Henricks of WTWO NewsChannel 2 is now hosting middays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on B102.7. Henricks is continuing weather forecast duties on WTWO Today, NewsChannel 2’s morning show, and as hostess of the Valley Showcase, before going on the radio later in the day. Party Marty has joined the CROCK 92.7 after 17 years on radio station WTHI’s HI-99 to become the program director and afternoon personality. “We are excited to have attracted two of the very best local media personalities to our family of radio stations,” said Doug Edge, general manager of Crossroads Communications. Henricks has been providing weather forecasts for the Crossroads stations since August of this year. “Julie has been doing a great job with us so we approached her about expanding her role. Party Marty is one of those people, like Julie, that is a household name,” Edge said. Party Marty will begin Nov. 27 and will be on afternoons starting Dec. 4. Party Marty will host the “BIG New Years Party” on Dec. 31 in the Terre Haute Holiday Inn for Crossroads Communication’s stations. “I am looking forward to building upon the success of the CROCK format,” Party Marty said. Crossroads Communications launched the unique format that blends country and classic rock together in October 2005. “Party Marty is the guy who will take the station to the next level,” Edge said.

Candidates lining up for vacated Indiana House seat
In case you missed it, Tribstar.com had breaking news on July 20 that Brazil resident, Amos Thomas, 76, has decided to run for the Indiana House seat held by his son, Republican Andy Thomas, who withdrew July 17 from the District 44 ballot. In the Associated Press story that day, Lindsay Jancek, communications director for the House Republican Campaign Committee, also said that six others have told party officials they are seriously considering a bid to replace Andy Thomas on the ballot, including Ken Eitel, who lost to Thomas in the 2004 GOP primary. Since then, The Nose has learned that yet another well-known Brazil businessman, Fritz Maurer, is among those who have shown interest in the nomination and has intentions of filing on Thursday. Republican precinct committee members will vote in the next few weeks to choose a candidate for the district that covers all of Putnam County and parts of Clay, Parke and Vigo counties.

Former House speaker to chair convention
We just knew John Gregg wouldn’t be able to stray away from politics forever. The Indiana Democratic Party has announced that former House Speaker Gregg will chair the party’s 2006 state convention next week in Indianapolis. “It’s a privilege to be selected by the party for this position, and I look forward to helping connect my fellow Democrats in a year that could bring historic political change to our state and our country,” Gregg said. Gregg, a resident of Sandborn in Knox County, served as Speaker of the Indiana House from 1996 to 2002 and was first elected to the chamber in 1986 to serve District 45, which includes a portion of Vigo County. Additionally, he served as the interim president of Vincennes University. He hosts a popular Saturday morning talk show on WIBC-AM (1070) in Indianapolis, and he currently is a member of the Government Services practice group at Bingham McHale, an Indiana law firm. Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker said Gregg was selected both for his political prowess and his motivating personality. “If there’s one person in the state of Indiana who can bring a crowd to its feet and get them excited about the Democratic Party and this year’s election, that person is John Gregg,” Parker said. “When he was in office, John listened to Hoosiers, and he respected them. We’re not seeing a lot of that in state government right now.” The Nose knows …
