TERRE HAUTE —
The Vigo County Redevelopment Commission on Tuesday renewed farming contracts for 849 acres of undeveloped property in the county’s industrial park.
The renewals include an increase in the per acre price for 2013.
Hayhurst Farms and Gormong Farms farmed just over 546 acres at $176 an acre this year, paying the Redevelopment Commission $96,166. Thomas A. Harlan of Harlan’s Inc. farmed 302 acres, paying the Redevelopment Commission $48,976.
Both Hayhurst and Gormong Farms and Harlan’s Inc. proposed to increase the per acre payment in 2013 to $195 per acre, the rate for average land in the southwestern portion of the state, according to a 2012 Purdue University Land Value Survey,
The Redevelopment Commission unanimously voted to extend the farming leases for 2013.
