Vigo man killed in accident

TERRE HAUTE — A Vigo County man was killed late Monday afternoon in a traffic accident on Indiana 46 near the eastside Walmart store.

Terre Haute Police report that Robert W. Counterman, 45, of Vigo County was killed when the vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned after a collision on Indiana 46 and Bill Farr Drive just southeast of Walmart.

The driver of the car in which Counterman was a passenger, Brittany L. Counterman, 21, was taken by helicopter ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Robert Counterman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Police report that the vehicle driven by Brittany Counterman turned in front of another vehicle which struck the passenger door where Robert Counterman would have been sitting. The Counterman vehicle overturned and remained upside-down at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle refused medical treatment, Terre Haute Fire Department officials reported.

Badly shaken family members of the accident victims were at the scene of the incident, which took place at about 4:45 p.m.

Vigo County Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr responded to the accident along with members of the Terre Haute fire and police departments.
