Indy teacher, husband killed in blast recalled

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis elementary school principal says a second-grade teacher who died with her husband in an explosion that ravaged an Indianapolis subdivision was so devoted to her students she had written out their detailed lesson plans through Thanksgiving.

Southwest Elementary School Principal Beth Guilfoy tells The Indianapolis Star that 36-year-old Jennifer Longworth was “100 percent dedicated” to her job.

She says Longworth had such detailed lesson plans in place her replacement will have a guide to carry through until Thanksgiving.

Longworth’s 34-year-old husband, John “Dion” Longworth, worked for an Indianapolis tech company. He and his wife of 11 years died Saturday night when an explosion obliterated their home and one adjacent to it and damaged dozens of other nearby residences.

The blast’s cause remained under investigation today.
