UPDATE: Frontier Internet outage repaired

TERRE HAUTE — Repairs have been completed for Internet service provided by Frontier Communications, a company official said today.

A Verizon circuit between Chicago and Terre Haute failed, causing a loss of service to 17,000 customers in the Wabash Valley, said Marc Evans, Frontier’s regional general manager.

The problem did not affect telephone service.

Evans said Frontier built a bridge around the circuit in order to restore Internet service.

“This will never happen again in the Wabash Valley once we get the new Roadem Network built and in service by the end of May,” Evans said.

He explained that many communications companies share their network with other providers, but Frontier is in the process of building its own circuit around Indiana that will include Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Terre Haute and Jasper with a loop back north to Fort Wayne. That circuit will provide high-speed Internet service for Frontier subscribers.

The outage was first detected at 10:05 a.m. today when an alarm sounded, Evans said; however, customers may have noticed a loss of service prior to that time.
