America’s workers will once again be recognized for their contributions Monday, when Terre Haute will join the nation in celebrating Labor Day 2013.
Here’s a list of local activities:
• The annual Labor Day parade, with units consisting of local labor unions, fire departments, bands, floats, political candidates and more, will step off at 11 a. m. at the corner of 11th Street and Wabash Avenue. Parade entrants should begin lining up at 10 a.m. The parade will proceed west on Wabash to Fourth Street, then south to Poplar Street and west to the parking lot of the former FOX TV affiliate at 138 Poplar St.
• The public is invited to a bean dinner at Fairbanks Park, along the banks of the Wabash River, following the parade.
• The Wabash Valley Central Labor Council will host the annual labor banquet Monday night at the Holiday Inn, 3300 U.S. Highway 41 South. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner at 7, a keynote speaker and awards presentation.
