Former Danville cop signs plea deal

TERRE HAUTE — A Hendricks County police officer has signed a guilty plea to resolve a domestic battery case that occurred in Deming Park in 2010.

Christopher J. Gill, 31, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery in Vigo Superior Court 5, admitting that he slammed a car door on his ex-wife’s leg during the April 2010 incident.

The terms of the plea agreement call for Gill to serve 349 days on probation, complete an anger management class and pay restitution.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts said the conviction means that Gill will no longer be able to possess firearms or ammunition, and he will not be able to work as a law enforcement officer.

Gill was arrested recently by a U.S. Marshal task force after returning to Indiana following a trip to Texas. He was lodged in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $100,000. A request for bond reduction earlier this week was denied by Judge Michael Rader.

Following the plea agreement, he was released from jail and signed up for probation.

Gill had served as a police officer with the Danville Police Department, where his father was the police chief.
