Sullivan daycare fire victim ID’d

Coroner: Cause of death was smoke inhalation

SULLIVAN — Sullivan County authorities have released the name of a 11⁄2-year-old girl who died Tuesday morning in a Sullivan County daycare fire.

The child’s name is Emmalea Elizabeth Lloyd, according to Coroner Jeff Griffith. The young giel was born July 30, 2012.

The fire occurred at Waterman’s Wonderland Daycare in the 500 block of East Silver Street on Sullivan’s south side.

The cause of death was smoke inhalation, Griffith said. The child’s body was found in a playpen.

The state fire marshal ruled the fire accidental, Sullivan Fire Chief Rob Robertson said Tuesday.

The daycare facility, a modular-type structure located next to a residence, had baseboard heating, and officials believe something may have fallen on it to start the fire, Robertson said. A couch located close to the baseboard also caught fire.

Six children were inside when the fire broke out and two adults supervising them got five of them out uninjured, he said. “They went back to get the other child, but it was too late,” Robertson had said Tuesday. “The room was fully involved.”

The structure was a total loss.

The child’s death marks the second fire-related fatality for Sullivan in less than a week. Last Thursday, 72-year-old Bruce Thompson died as the result of a fire at the Sunrise Towers housing complex.
