Police: Death from natural causes for 2 bodies found in home

LINTON — Death by natural causes has been ruled in the deaths of two people whose bodies were found Sunday evening inside their Pimento area home in southern Vigo County.

Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos told the Tribune-Star on Monday that an autopsy found natural causes. The identities of the man and woman found inside the home must be determined by DNA testing, she said, because there are no fingerprint or dental records to use for identification purposes. It could take two to three weeks to receive the DNA test results and toxicology testing results, she said.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department investigated the deaths after receiving a call from a concerned family member around 5:15 p.m. Sunday to check on Daniel and Donna Young, the reported occupants of a house in the 11700 block of South Singhurst Street. The family had not been in communication with the occupants for “quite some time,” said Chief Deputy Clark Cottom. He said he could not confirm that the bodies found in the home were the Youngs.

Cottom said that family members went to the house — which is on top of a hill a few yards off of Singhurst Street — on Easter Sunday and became concerned when no movement was observed, and the house was locked.

When police got to the scene, they had to force entry into the home, Cottom said. During a check of the home, the two bodies were found. There were no signs of forced entry before police arrival, he said.

The newly constructed house is located on the site of a December 2004 fire that claimed the life of one child. Another child sustained serious burn injuries in that fire, but survived. The family reportedly built a new house on that site.
