Vigo crash sends three to hospital

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — A two-vehicle crash in southern Vigo County left three people hospitalized Sunday.

At least one person was airlifted from the scene in a helicopter ambulance bound for Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Two others involved were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police at the scene.

Extraction equipment was needed to remove a person from one of the cars, which suffered significant front end damage in the crash. The names of those involved were not immediately available nor were their conditions.

The crash took place about 3 p.m. on Indiana 63 and Harlan Drive. It was not clear what caused it, police said. Both vehicles were four-door passenger cars.

Indiana 63 remained closed to traffic south of Prairieton to Harlan Drive until about 4:30.

In addition to emergency responders from the Prairieton Fire Department, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department and Trans Care Ambulance also responded to the scene. A federal marshal set up a barrier on Indiana 63 to keep the crash site clear of traffic.
