Three injured in early Wednesday-morning southside accident

Two people airlifted to Indianapolis hospital

TERRE HAUTE — A two-vehicle crash at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 41 at Springhill Drive resulted in three people being taken to area hospitals, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

A preliminary investigation by police showed a pickup truck driven by 24-year-old James M. Waugh of Marshall, Ill., was southbound on U.S. 41 and failed to stop for a red light at Springhill Drive.

The Waugh vehicle struck a car traveling westbound on Springhill Drive driven by 20-year-old Nancy M. Nasser-Fortin of Terre Haute. She was transported to Union Hospital of Terre Haute for general pain and later transported by helicopter ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

A passenger in the Nasser-Fortin vehicle, William Jarvis, 30, of Terre Haute also was airlifted to Methodist Hospital for neck and back pain.

Jarvis was listed in good condition Wednesday evening at Methodist Hospital. Nasser-Fortin was being observed for possible release from Methodist, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Waugh was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for neck and back pain where he was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

Waugh was cited for disregarding an automatic signal.
