Two Terre Haute men face drug charges

TERRE HAUTE — Two Terre Haute men face charges of corrupt business influence and dealing marijuana after a raid of Midwest High End Repairables on Washington Avenue Thursday morning.

Carl E. Ross, 35, and Charles A. Kemp, 36, both appeared in Vigo Superior Court 6 on multiple criminal charges filed Thursday in connection with a marijuana distribution business that has been investigated by the Vigo County Drug Task Force and federal agents for several months.

They are both being held in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $50,000 cash only.

On Thursday morning, police served warrants for both men at the business in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue.

Ross faces 11 class-C and class-D felony charges including money laundering, corrupt business influence, dealing marijuana, attempted receiving stolen property, conspiracy and maintaining a common nuisance.

Kemp faces five criminal charges of corrupt business influence, dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt said the investigation has been ongoing for several months.

“We don’t know if they are part of a bigger network,” Modesitt told the Tribune-Star. “They are the two who, up to this point, we had enough evidence to file charges.”

He indicated that more arrests could be made as the investigation continues.

Judge Michael Lewis set a trial date of April 21 for Ross, and denied a bond reduction request by defense attorney Joseph Etling.

No future court date was set for Kemp.
