ISP: Driver in crash tested 5X legal limit

TERRE HAUTE — A driver who tested nearly five times the legal limit for alcohol caused a three-vehicle crash on Indiana 46 near Old Riley Road at about 6 p.m. Sunday, according to Indiana State Police.

A van driven by Janeen L. Sackett, 42, of Terre Haute, failed to slow or stop while eastbound on Indiana 46 approaching two vehicles that were stopped to make a left turn into the Maryland Community Church, police said.

Sackett’s van struck a pickup driven by 19-year-old Zachary Moore in the rear, and Moore’s truck was pushed forward into the rear of a car driven by Christina M. Anderson, 36, of Terre Haute.

Sackett appeared intoxicated at the scene and attempted to walk away from the crash, police said. She was detained by off-duty Terre Haute Police officer Justin Sears until ISP troopers arrived.

She was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for an alcohol test, which showed a 0.39 percent blood-alcohol level, nearly five times the legal limit. No one was injured in the accident.

Sackett was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated (with a prior conviction on the same charge), a class-D felony; driving while suspended (with a prior conviction), a misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated and endangering, a misdemeanor; and aggressive driving, a misdemeanor.

She is scheduled to appear in Vigo Superior Court Div. 5 at 11 a.m. today.
