Sheriff’s deputies responded late Tuesday night to a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 South near the Sullivan/Vigo county line.
According to a Vigo County Sheriff’s Department news release, about 11:48 p.m. Aerial Jensen, 18, of Farmersburg was driving south on U.S. 41 when she fell asleep at the wheel while a passenger, a juvenile, was asleep in the front seat.
The vehicle left the roadway, striking a street sign that came through the windshield, striking the passenger. The vehicle continued for another 100 feet when the driver was able to return the vehicle safely to the road, according to the release.
The passenger had feet up on the dash board when the sign came through the windshield. As a result, the juvenile received injuries to the lower leg and was flown by helicopter ambulance to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, Jensen, was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor and no citations were issued, police said.
Deputies from the Vigo and Sullivan County sheriff’s departments responded to the crash.
