Terre Haute man arrested after overnight high-speed chase

TERRE HAUTE — Formal charges are expected to be filed Monday in the case of a Terre Haute man who led police on a high speed chase early Wednesday.

Anthony Lee Bose, 26, appeared Wednesday afternoon in Vigo Superior Court 6 where Judge Michael Lewis found probable cause for his arrest on charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, receiving stolen property and criminal recklessness.

The incident began at about 12:46 a.m.  when Vigo County Sheriff’s 1st Sgt. Clayton White was on patrol near Indiana 159 at the intersection of Harlan Drive. White clocked a vehicle traveling southbound on Indiana 159 at about 72 mph in a 55 mph zone. White attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped up to about 105 mph.

The car turned westbound on Cottom Drive and entered the community of Pimento, White reported. Near the intersections of Edwards and Stout streets, the suspect’s car turned toward White’s patrol vehicle and attempted to collide with it. White was able to reverse and avoid the collision. White was able to radio a description of the driver and his car to Central Dispatch at that time.

Deputy Jason Washburn joined the pursuit, which turned north onto Indiana 159, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. Deputy Dayton Huebner also joined the pursuit, which entered Riley and turned west onto Indiana 46. At that time, Sgt. John Davis set up stop sticks on Indiana 46 just north of Maryland Community Church. As the suspect’s car passed through the stop stick location, both driver side tires were flattened. The car continued northbound, however, running through the red light at Indiana 46 and Interstate 70. The car turned west onto Margaret Avenue and the suspect pulled over, where he was taken into custody.

During a routine inventory of the car, police located a 12-gauge Remington 1100 shotgun with several shells in the car’s trunk. Police found that the shotgun had been reported stolen in Gibson County.

Also in the trunk, police found a shopping bag that contained about 33.5 grams of marijuana.

Bose is being held in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $15,000 cash only.
