Early morning crash lands man in water, hospital then jail

TERRE HAUTE — An early Saturday morning accident where a pick-up truck crashed into a body of water in southern Vigo County resulted in an arrest and a citation, police said.

At around 4:45 a.m., Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene near 6580 Robertson Road and found that a full-size Chevy pickup truck was submerged in the water, police said.

The officers found the passenger of the truck, Tyler McGoldrick of Terre Haute, who apparently told police that he was asleep when the truck crashed into the body of water.

Police said that McGoldrick escaped through a window and ran for help. Police also said that they were told that the driver was still trapped inside the submerged truck.

Police said that upon pulling the vehicle out of the water, responders found no occupants inside and a dive team was called to search the water.

At around 10 a.m. Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies located the driver at a relatives’ house.

The driver, Chadwick ‘Shane’ Cutter II of Terre Haute, apparently told police that the truck plunged into the water after he attempted to negotiate a curve too fast and lost control of the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle slid across a yard then struck a small tree. Police said that Cutter stated that he was scared and fled the scene on foot.

Cutter was cited for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and driving while suspended/infraction.

McGoldrick was taken to Regional Hospital for minor injuries, but later released and taken to the Vigo County Jail for an outstanding probation violation warrant.
