Two-semi crash snarls I-70 traffic

TERRE HAUTE — One driver received minor injuries in an accident Tuesday afternoon involving two semitrailers on eastbound Interstate 70 in Vigo County.

The accident happened about a mile west of Indiana 46 as traffic began to slow for a construction zone, according to Indiana State Police.

One of the drivers, Adis Kusur, 33, of London, Ontario, failed to slow in time and slammed into the semi in front of him, driven by Raymond L. Riner, 64, of Ardmore, Okla.

The semi driven by Kusur was heavily damaged, but he sustained only minor injuries and signed a medical release. Riner was not injured.

Kusur was briefly trapped in the vehicle, but with the help of the Terre Haute Fire Department, was able to exit on his own.

A sign calling for traffic to slow to 45 miles per hour was located just east of the accident scene.

Kusur was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

The accident slowed, and temporarily stopped, traffic on eastbound I-70, although both lanes re-opened early Tuesday evening.

Assisting were multiple Indiana State Police units, Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Terre Haute Fire Department and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
