The Woods board approves contract extension for prez

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College board of trustees voted to renew the contract of President Dottie King for another three years through 2017 at its May meeting.

The unanimous board action, according to a press release from the school, signaled a strong and clear endorsement for King, the college’s 16th president.

During King’s tenure, the college advanced its ranking to the top 5 percent of Best Regional Colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. Recent academic developments include restructuring the undergraduate core curriculum; developing nursing and online RN-to-BSN programs; adding new majors, including criminology, environmental science and healthcare administration; and renovating science laboratories.

King led SMWC through an $11 million capital campaign to build a sports and recreation center. According to the press release: “The facility, opening in fall 2014, will enhance the college experience for students and provide multiple opportunities to collaborate with the local community through health-and-wellness initiatives and other programs.”

In addition, King spearheaded the launch of a new brand initiative focused on advancing the image and reputation of SMWC, Aspire Higher.
