Single-car wreck on 13th knocks out power downtown

TERRE HAUTE — A single vehicle struck a utility poll at 13th and Voorhees streets, causing a widespread power outage in Terre Haute Friday morning.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m., the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reports. Power was restored to 1,468 Duke Energy customers within three hours, said Rick Burger, district manager.

The main power outage was near Indiana 150 and U.S. 40, including customers in West Terre Haute. Traffic signals throughout an area was from East Margaret Avenue to the north and south to East Marley Drive were affected.

Another 486 electrical customers were impacted from multiple outages from South Fagin Street south to East Gross Road.
