$500K grant sought for Fayette Township water

TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County Commissioners and Fayette Township Water Association are attempting to qualify for a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant through the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs to be used for a water improvements project.

Those improvements would include line and hydrant replacements and valve installations to address water leaks and pressure issues within the system, according to a press release.

The federally funded block grant program is designed to benefit community development public assistance projects such as planning studies and improving community centers, wastewater, water, roads and bridges.

To receive the federally funded grant dollars, an income survey must be completed. Residents who receive the survey in the mail have been randomly selected to participate in the process and are urged to fully complete and return the survey in the self-addressed, stamped envelope as soon as possible.

Kristy Jerrell, the project’s grant administrator, asked that residents contact her at 812-645-1905 with any questions regarding the project or the income survey.

Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs is operated by the Indiana lieutenant governor’s office, which receives federal grant dollars from Housing & Urban Development. The lieutenant governor’s office then awards and manages the federal grant.

The total project cost is about $960,000. The grant application submittal deadline is May 16, 2014. HWC Engineering of Terre Haute is the engineering firm, and  Eric Smith is the project engineer.
