Simulation aims to help people experience homelessness

TERRE HAUTE — Families By Choice will be hosting a simulation to give people in the Wabash Valley a brief experience with the frustrations and challenges of being homeless.

The event begins with registration from 3 to 6 p.m. April 19 at Gilbert Park.

This is followed by city leaders sharing their support for addressing the needs of the homeless. After the speakers, a meal will be served to begin the journey for 12 hours as a homeless person.

People 14 years old and older are eligible to participate. Minors must be accompanied by a paying adult. The cost is $30 per person; groups may be eligible for a discount.

Participants MUST bring: identification; ONE blanket; a notebook (used is good); and the clothes on your back.

Participants CANNOT bring: electronics; pillows; food (will be provided); backpacks; valuables such as jewelry; money (only $30 registration fee); extra clothes; make-up, lotions, etc.; books; flashlights; umbrellas and raincoats; tissues; medication.
