Community Foundation issues 11 grants

More than $37K given out this fall

TERRE HAUTE — The Wabash Valley Community Foundation has announced 11 recipients of its fall 2011 grant cycle who together are receiving more than $37,000.

The recipients are:

• Arts Illiana: $5,000 — in support of a program for disadvantaged and special needs youth

• Friends of the Vigo County Library: $5,000 — in support of Wabash Valley Big Read

• Hamilton Center, Spectrum Services: $6,000 — in support of Project SEARCH

• ISU Bayh College of Education: $1,280 — in support of Sycamore Readers program

• Ronald McDonald House: $2,000 — in support of Vigo County Family Assistance Program

• Terre Haute Children’s Choir: $3,200 — in support of 10 student tuition grants

• Terre Haute Crow Committee: $6,000 — in support of equipment and supplies

• Terre Haute Human Relations Commission: $1,800 — in support of sponsorships for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Summit

• Terre Haute School of Rock: $2,000 — support of purchase of guitars and accessories

• The WILL Center: $2,751 — in support of the Kids on the Block program

• Twenty-First Century Scholars: $2,100 — for program support

Twenty-two area nonprofit organizations were invited to submit full proposals, which were then reviewed by a committee of eight Vigo County residents. 

The Wabash Valley Community Foundation, founded in 1991, exists to serve donors through the administration of the grants program.
