Terre Haute man still hospitalized after scooter/car crash

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man remained hospitalized Monday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after his scooter struck a car early Saturday on Wabash Avenue at 25th Street.

Michael A. Baltzell, 21, was thrown off a westbound 2001 Suzuki scooter when it collided with a 2010 Dodge Nitro driven by Rhonda L. Larison, 49, of Terre Haute.

Larison told Terre Haute Police officer Vincent Bilberry that she was driving north and was almost through the intersection when the scooter ran into the passenger side of her vehicle. Witnesses reported that Larison’s vehicle had the green light and right-of-way.

Baltzell was taken to Union Hospital for treatment by Terre Haute Fire ambulance. He was then airlifted to the Indianapolis hospital.

Both motorists tested negative for drugs and alcohol, the police report stated.
