Clay County deputies uncover several meth labs

TERRE HAUTE — More arrests are possible in Clay County after sheriff’s deputies uncovered several one-pot methamphetamine labs and other items used in making meth at two residences in Brazil.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department, in a news release issued on Thursday, said deputies on Wednesday arrested Jesse Schane, 22, and Brandon Pruitt, 26, both of Brazil, on preliminary allegations of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursors, possession of paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance.

The arrests followed a search of a residence on Kruzan Street in Brazil, according to the release.

Later, deputies also searched an abandoned residence in Brazil also believed to be used in making meth. Items used in making meth were also found at that residence, according to police.

The allegation of manufacturing meth is a class-B felony; however, that could be enhanced to a class-A felony because the materials were discovered in a residence within 1,000 feet of the Clay County YMCA, according to the news release.

Deputies had been investigating this matter for several weeks, according to the sheriff’s department, which added that the case remains open and that more arrests may result.
