Two oil companies help pay for Hunt Street repaving

TERRE HAUTE — An agreement reached between Vigo County and two oil companies has paid for the repaving of a section of Hunt Street, between U.S. 40 and Indiana 42.

Riley-based Hux Oil Corp. and Indianapolis-based CountryMark are located about a quarter of a mile apart along Hunt Street. They started operations in 2011. An agreement between the two companies and the county allowed for the paving of 1.2 miles, which was completed Friday, Vigo County Commissioner Mike Ciolli said.

“The two companies were bonded for the road, but they agreed to redo the road on which they actually drive on, which is 8/10th of a mile of that road,” Ciolli said.

The two companies paid about $57,000, while the county paid about $32,000 to repave the road.

The county also agreed to the paving, Ciolli said, as the road is also used by Vigo County school buses on their way transporting students to and from Lost Creek Elementary School.

“This was one of the concerns of the public, that these oil companies should help with the expenses and one expense is the road, so they stepped up and paid for their part,” Ciolli said of the two companies.
