Spruce Street robbery nets $100,000 bond for suspect

TERRE HAUTE — A man is being held in the Vigo County Jail on $100,000 cash bond following a weekend robbery.

William Wyatt, 25, no address provided, appeared via video in Vigo Superior Court 5 on Monday where Judge Michael Rader set his trial date for Feb. 18. The increase in bond from $50,000 was requested because of Wyatt’s criminal history.

Wyatt has been charged with class-B felony burglary, class-C felony robbery and two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury related to an incident early Saturday in the 2200 block of Spruce Street.

Terre Haute Police report that at 4:16 a.m., officers responded to a residential robbery, finding a man and woman who stated that they had been beaten by several people. The victims reported that items were taken by force from their home.

A witness reported seeing the suspects get into a Ford truck, and the witness later notified police when it returned to the area. At about 5:16 p.m., a vehicle matching the description of the suspect truck was located by police near 23rd Street and Liberty Avenue. A passenger in the truck was identified as Wyatt, and property belonging to the victims was in his possession, police said.

Wyatt was identified by both victims of the robbery, and he was taken into police custody.

Both victims declined medical treatment at the scene.

THPD Assistant Chief Shawn Keen told the Tribune-Star that the investigation is continuing. As of Monday, no charges had been filed against the driver of the truck.
