Early-morning sun blamed for Third Street accident

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — Blinding morning sun was a contributing factor in a two-vehicle accident about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at Third and Farrington streets.

Terre Haute Police report that a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 was eastbound at the intersection when driver Kaitlyn T. Guthrie, 24, of California, attempted to turn left to go north on Third Street. Her vehicle collided head-on with a westbound 1997 Mercury Mountainer driven by Lucy I. Moser, 21, of Columbus.

Guthrie told police that the sun was in her eyes and she did not see the oncoming vehicle.

Moser and her passenger were both transported to Union Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

All occupants of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

Guthrie was given a warning ticket for failure to yield the right-of-way.
