Shots fired in home invasion, robbery

Police looking for two white suspects

TERRE HAUTE — Shots were fired early Tuesday morning in what police are calling a home invasion and armed robbery in Terre Haute.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, in a news release, said deputies were called to a residence on Halt Drive, which is north of Sam’s Wholesale Club, about 3:17 a.m.

A caller told police two suspects, described as white males in their 20s, broke into his residence and kicked him and pistol whipped him. They were demanding cash and marijuana, according to the news release. The suspects were allegedly carrying guns described as semi-automatic pistols. It is believed one weapon was silver, according to police.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the sheriff’s department said one of the suspects threatened to shoot the victim; however, no shots were fired inside the residence.

As the suspects fled, the alleged victim fired two rounds from a shotgun at the suspects’ vehicle, smashing the passenger side window. Deputies discovered broken glass at the scene.

Police said the victim’s head and face were covered with blood but he refused medical treatment.

The suspects made off with several hundred dollars in cash and a Sony laptop, Cottom reported, adding that no marijuana was found inside the residence.

Detectives are asking that anyone with information on the home invasion contact the sheriff’s department at 812-462-3226 or Crime Stoppers at 812-238-STOP.
