New circulation director eyes customer satisfaction

Girdler brings more than 16 years in industry

TERRE HAUTE — A new circulation director has joined the Tribune-Star team.

Jim Girdler began his new assignment Monday. A 16-year veteran of the newspaper industry, he has been with Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. — parent company of the Tribune-Star — for the past eight years.

“My plans are just to make an impact on customer service,” Girdler said, “to make sure our customers are taken care of to the best of our ability.”

Girdler comes to Terre Haute from Somerset, Ky., where he was circulation manager at the Commonwealth Journal since February 2005.

He was district manager for the Herald Leader in Lexington, Ky., from October 1997 to 2005. Before that he served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Jim’s ability here in Terre Haute,” said Tribune-Star publisher B.J. Riley. “He has some great experience that will be helpful for us. It is a great opportunity for us and for Jim.”

Girdler has moved to Terre Haute with his wife, who has family in the Wabash Valley. The couple has two sons and a daughter.
