TERRE HAUTE —
Two Woodrow Wilson Middle School students were arrested after someone lit a toilet paper roll on fire in a school bathroom at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
“A custodian was near and put it out immediately,” said Superintendent Dan Tanoos.
The school was evacuated, and the Terre Haute Fire Department was contacted as a precaution.
Tanoos credited the school protection officer in the building, who saw four students coming out of the bathroom near the time the incident occurred.
An investigation began, students were interviewed and ultimately two were arrested, who will also face school-related consequences.
“I will ask the principal to go for the most extreme punishment possible” because of the disruption of the school day and the potential for damage to the school and harm to students and staff, Tanoos said. “Thank goodness the custodian acted quickly.”
Parents were notified about the incident through a phone message from the principal’s office.
